People Are Talking: UMS presents Sabine Meyer and The Trio Di Clarone at Rackham Auditorium:
They are fantastic but the programme’s way too short!
People are Talking: UMS Presents Yuja Wang at Hill Auditorium [plus AUDIO]:
Excellent storyteller. I loved her Beethoven and Rachmaninov selection. There is something lacking, however, in the Debussy-Ravel-Albéniz triptych and the more philosophical Scriabin, that may only come after years of life experience with beings and places.
People are Talking: UMS Presents Goran Bregovic and his Wedding and Funeral Orchestra at Hill Auditorium:
Bunch of synthesized noise, Mr. Bregović egoistically and unnecessarily conducting, without depth in any aspect. It worked in La reine Margot; it certainly did not work in Hill Auditorium. I could not even stand the first half hour.
People are Talking: UMS presents John Malkovich in The Infernal Comedy at Hill Auditorium [plus AUDIO]:
Well, it’s the supposed truth about him. The play is not advocating the assault of women. To some extent it is about his seeming charm and actual assault, or in general lie and truth. I am sorry that you missed the point, but you have every right to be disgusted.
How can the demonstrated assault of women be funny? The concept of this performance is ill-conceived and offensive. We are amazed that the UMS would program something so demeaning. After 3o minutes we had enough and left.
