People are Talking: UMS Presents American Ballet Theatre: The Sleeping Beauty:
Beautiful dancing, costumes, and music. It’s a good idea to arrive early enough to read the program before rather than during intermission as I did. Parking across the street is $30.00 and $10.00 at the Z parking garage.
People Are Talking: UMS presents Lyon Opera Ballet at Power Center:
Thank you, UMS for this avant-garde ballet. This performance was captivating and left a lasting impression.
People Are Talking: UMS presents Young Jean Lee’s Theater Company: Untitled Feminist Show:
Did I miss something?
People Are Talking: UMS presents Taylor Mac:
Cutting edge performance art for the drag queen bingo crowd.
People Are Talking: UMS presents My Brightest Diamond with Detroit Party Marching Band:
Loved the show and the Party Band. It would have been much more enjoyable if the audience had a better view of the performers. Some members of the audience had to stand on chairs. We pretty much settled for no view. Not sure there was a stage but if there was one it should have been taller.
People Are Talking: UMS presents Bassekou Kouyaté and Fatoumata Diawara at Michigan Theater:
Loved both sets. Didn’t mind the extra time needed for the standing ovations. Thank you, UMS, for bringing so many wonderful performances to the Detroit/Ann Arbor area.
People Are Talking: UMS presents Kidd Pivot: The Tempest Replica at Power Center:
Was impressed in the beginning but ultimately wished that it would end sooner than it did.. Much too repetitive.
People Are Talking: UMS presents The Ballet Preljocaj at The Power Center:
Nice but not all that impressed. Only one stand out dancer/character. Have to agree with Nick on all his points.
People Are Talking: UMS presents Cheikh Lô at The Michigan Theater:
It might be a good idea to educate the audience about the cultural differences of some performances in advance. I wanted to surprise my guest with Cheikh Lo’s concert, so I limited information to what she might not expect…. that audience participation would be encouraged, including hand clapping, singing, dancing, showering money on the musicians, jumping on, and dancing on stage. She felt that all of these African traditions added to the authenticity and enjoyment of the concert. We observed those who danced through most of the concert, appreciated their enthusiasm, but were not compelled to stare at them.
People Are Talking: UMS presents Cheikh Lô at The Michigan Theater:
An immensely enjoyable show by master musicians. Cheikh Lo and his band rocked the Michigan Theater.
People Are Talking About…Baaba Maal:
The Baaba Maal concert was one of the best concerts I have attended. It was more than a concert, it was a beautiful experience. I wish people who would pay $175.00 to see acts like Lady Gaga could have and opportunity to see something like this.
People are Talking About…Uncle Vanya:
We attended the play on Thursday night. Reviews warned about the length and leisurely pace. The play and cast were completely captivating and deserving of the standing ovation.
