People Are Talking: UMS presents Lyon Opera Ballet at Power Center:

  • Yes! that scene on the stairs was great!

Once again, I was treated to a delightful experience of amazing creativity! The dancing was graceful as ballet can be, but also acrobatic at times. The audience gasped as Cinderella bounced down the stairs where she left her slipper.

  • People Are Talking: UMS presents Lyon Opera Ballet at Power Center:

  • Enjoyed the performance very much — it was creative and a unique take on the familiar story. The masks might have given me nightmares when I was a child, but I liked them a lot today!

I do find myself wondering why it is that a very small but annoying portion of the audience does not seem to think that the “no cell phones” and “no photography” rules apply to them. There were 3 or 4 people in my line of vision today. the ushers could not have gotten to them without disturbing everyone else even more, so I don’t fault them at all. Oh well… I still enjoyed my afternoon!

  • People Are Talking: UMS presents Blind Summit at Performance Network:

  • We loved Moses and Blind Summit and do hope UMS brings the company back again very soon. The performance was funny, creative, thought-provoking, refreshing and odd in a very good way. A great way to spend Sunday afternoon!

  • People are Talking: UMS Presents Gate Theatre of Dublin at the Power Center:

  • I loved both plays and felt stunned by the beauty and power of the language which was delivered so perfectly. I remember the Gate Theater’s wonderful Godot production from a few years ago, and hope UMS is able to bring them back regularly!

  • People Are Talking: Richard III & The Comedy of Errors:

  • We loved both plays (we did the Saturday “double feature”) and hope that the compnay returns to Power Center soon.

  • People are Talking: Rafal Blechacz, piano:

  • My husband and I enjoyed the concert immensely. It was beautiful and engaging and I felt refreshed at the end — an unual feeling, late on a Friday evening in February! We look forward to more UMS appearences by Mr. Blechacz in the years to come. He should only get better!

  • People Are Talking About…Lang Lang and the Schleswig-Holstein Festival Orchestra:

  • My husband and I enjoyed the concert immensely, and look forward to seeing Lang Lang again someday!

Listening to the Prokofiev made me think of the wonderful U-M grad, Barbara Nissman. Has she ever performed through UMS?

  • People Are Talking About…Members of the Takacs Quartet:

  • It was a wonderful concert! My husband and I especially enjoyed the Kodaly duo. What a magnificent piece of music and so beautifully interpreted. It sent me to the internet today to learn more about the composer. I can always count on UMS to provide me with new things to think about!

We've found that unexpected program changes can bring a special energy to the stage. Now we've seen a new side to the Takacs Quartet — or at least to three of them!

  • What Are YOUR Most Memorable UMS Performances?:

  • We have seen so many extraordinary performances through UMS! The most memorable is without question the Royal Shakespeare Company's 2001 Tetralogy — Henry VI Parts I, II, III and Richard II, performed over two days. That was truly a "happening", especially in the context of the entire residency and Prof. Williams' wonderful evening course to which the public was invited.

The RSC's 2003 and 2006 visits also rate at the top of my UMS list. The Tempest was so creative, and I doubt I will ever see an Antony & Cleopatra to top Patrick Stewart and Harriet Walter.

Fiona Shaw's Medea in 2002 left me shaken. That was an amazing show.

The Kodo Drummers are always a must-see, as are the Globe Theater Co. (their Twelfth Night with the all-male cast a few years ago was very memorable!), Trio Medieval and Wu Han. Last year's NY Philharmonic show certainly stands out.

We are so lucky to have UMS and it's gifted, hard working staff here in Ann Arbor. It is a world class organization.
