    Share Your Hill Auditorium Memories:

  • After graduating from Oberlin in 1962, I came to U-M to do my graduate studies. I immediately fell in love with Hill Auditorium, particularly its free concerts. Two stands out in my memories. The first: three beautiful female singers sang Mozart’s Exsultate Jubilate. The second: a male trumpeter played Michael Haydn’s Trumpet Concerto as a high school contest winner. Ann Arbor is a great place for poor students to enjoy many free offerings.

  • People Are Talking: UMS presents Alison Balsom & The Scottish Ensemble at Hill Auditorium:

  • Only men can have strong enough breath to play trumpet, but a woman?–no difference–What a performance!
The final piece–Prince of Denmark March by Jeremiah Clark–was so beautiful and exhilarating!
I have always used this last piece as the opening ceremony music at my tournaments (TKD) when competitors enter the gym like the Olympics.
Why English–Scottish in particular–ensembles are so good at Renaissance and Baroque period music?
